Exercising and being active, even with a Disability helps us all stay mentally and physically healthy. But if you live with disability, you may experience additional challenges when trying to stay active. Sometimes this is because of mobility issues, but it may also be because of a lack of accessible and inclusive gyms and other exercise spaces.
Worryingly, a survey conducted by The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare found that almost three-quarters of people aged 15 and over with disability do not participate in enough physical activity. In contrast, about half of people without disability do not get the recommended amount of physical activity.
